As the holiday is celebrated during the time it takes for the moon to go from new to full, Lunar New Year lasts for half a month or 15 days. In China, it begins during the first new moon of the calendar year and ends with the first full moon. The Lunar New Year is celebrated annually and occurs on different days depending on the culture. The first day is referred to as the Spring Festival, whereas the last day is called teh Lantern Festival in China. The Lunar New Year is a celebration of the first lunar cycle in the new year.
